How to plan an Engagement Party ♡ !

In Oh the places you'll go by Just Oscar & Bello3 Comments

Gorgeous engagement parties are the perfect way to celebrate a new chapter in your life…but is also the perfect excuse to bring all your family and friends together! So, crack the champagne, laugh over the proposal story and feast on fine foods. Make sure that however you choose to celebrate, you make it unforgettable! Take a look at these luscious ideas to help you plan a glittering engagement party…

Flesh Out the Budget

Bare bones or a fine feast; budgets come in all shapes and sizes. You don’t want to blow your whole wedding savings on this party, so take some time to play the numbers game first. Once you have those figures in black and white, it becomes a little easier to plan. This will dictate if you have a black tie affair complete with chilled Tattinger and a live string band, or if you simply hang up some lanterns in your own backyard, pour mimosas and fire up the barbeque under a tree of fairy lights. Either way, if your night starts and ends with the perfect kiss, your new chapter is off to a perfect start!

Choose the Right Time

Timing is everything when throwing your glorious engagement party; you don’t want to throw the engagement party and have everyone turn up at the wedding with a hangover. Nor do you want to throw it years in advance so everyone forgets whether or not you are even married. The proper practice seems to be within a few months of the engagement and at least 6 months prior to the big day. For us, for a sentimental note, we chose the date, exactly one year prior to the wedding.

Pick the Perfect Place

Engagement parties don’t have to be tied to a theme or have the same grandeur as a wedding, yet they still blaze with creativity. Finding the right spot for your soiree is important, especially when it comes to both budget and location. From blissful botanical gardens, to a rustic converted barn with the rain drizzling outside, or even collected around a table warm with laughter at your favorite restaurant – there are no restrictions on the perfect place.

Painting a Picture

Now that you have your numbers, your date circled on the calendar, and a dreamy location you can start filling in the details. Your engagement party should be a reflection of who you are. Romantics can choose a chocolate and champagne inspired gala with silver platters of pretty sweet things, red roses adorning the tables, and chilled champagne flutes to pass around. Outdoorsy types can hold a glamping festival with handmade lanterns, white whipped teepees, and crackling fires.

Food and Festivities

No fabulous soiree ever went without food; indeed, tantalizing taste buds is intricately linked to lovely festivities. If you throw your party at a restaurant, then catering is something you don’t have to worry about. Yet for those who pick pretty blossom laden backyards, gorgeous green spaces, and elegant rooms – you may need to start planning a menu. Fine finger foods with curated cocktails, smoked barbeque meats and craft beers, fresh oysters and champagne – you can keep things simple yet trimmed with sophistication when it comes to catering.

Engaging your Guests

The party may be about you but as the host it is essential to keep your guests gloriously entertained. This can be as simple as choosing a band to play, organizing games, or even making your wedding party announcements. You can announce who will be the bridesmaids and groomsmen by gifting them silver heart earrings and tie pins or by giving them pop the question balloons. You can also give your other guests little favors whether it is save the date cookies or special wine stoppers. Finally, if you want to play games then think carnival style toss the ring on the champagne bottle, hook a wedding duck, or even ask all your guests to submit a song request for the big day.

A great engagement party is about celebrating with those you love and getting a little taste of the feast to come. As long as you fill your space with fine people and good food – everyone is sure to smile.
